LINDA ROSS GALLAGHER

This year I turn 70 and have painted since childhood. Without art programs in high school, I chose hands-on classical Fine Arts training at Mount Allison University, winning the entrance scholarship for tuition and subsequent scholarships throughout the 4 year BFA program.

My life is experience-rich and varied. As a child I was isolated from others, but lived in nature, painting what I saw. While I was a mother of 2, there were many moves across the continent, including Victoria, BC, Halifax, Calgary, Alameda California, Toronto, the Escarpment hills of Burlington and now rural Georgetown area. While in the City, my art revolved around architecture, cityscape and figurative subway themes; as a personal trainer for 15 years, pilates instructor and practitioner of energetic healing arts, my knowledge of anatomy for figurative work is thorough. In the 90’s I escaped to concentrated painting among Western landscape painters as a visiting artist through the Leighton Foundation and Emma Lake Workshops. As a farmer for 10 years, I have gained an appreciation of bucolic life, birds and 4-legged creatures.

Art for me is a way of seeing through all my senses, truly noticing, making the ordinary extraordinary. If I can inspire others to “see, feel, taste, touch”, to connect deeply through my art or to become artists themselves, I have accomplished something worthwhile.
